I'm talking about Mrs. Nelson, of course. I had no expectations for today. I was delighted to hear that Mrs. Nelson did.
Mrs. Nelson teaches strings at the elementary schools. The kids see her once a week, but, for that one day, she teaches.
I remember one week when Paul was out sick. We spent the entire week trying to coax a little homework out of the Danville Elementary School. No teacher, no administrator would collect work for him -- except Mrs. Nelson. We didn't call her, and the school didn't notify her, but when Paul was absent from her class, she took the initiative to call our house. She inquire about his well being then gave us work for him -- for when he felt better.
Paul didn't expect to see her today, but Mrs. Nelson was on hand to TEACH. I sent her a note. We really appreciate her work ethic and how well the kids respond.
I've asked Mrs. Nelson about her control over kids so young and she just smiles. I know the answer -- kids love to learn from a teacher who loves to teach. _________________ "I've been teaching here for 20 years so please don't assume that kids can add, subtract, multiply and divide integers without problems.
