|
|
Many years ago my wife and I tried to get our son into one of the other schools in the district. At that time there was a strong perception that one school in the district was far better than any of the others. (It's really not important to the discussion of today which school that was 25 years ago). The district insisted that all schools were equally as good and taught all the same things. That helped convince us to send our son to a private school.
Is there still the same sort of public perception (that some district schools are better than others) or has the district achieved parity across all the elementary schools? Are their numbers (test scores for example) that support one view or the other? |

A few years ago, various parents at the middle school were told that Danvill e had the worst students over all and they were not prepared for MS. Atkinson had the best math knowledge.
So I would say they are not all created equal. |

They would have all atteneded Sandown Central. Sandown North was not build until after they left Elementary School.
But the difference is that Sandown Central is lower Elementary and Sandown North is Upper Elementary. |

You are probably right. All too often there are people involved in education who think that all children are interechangable. That is one of the flaws of the way we use standardized tests in this county. If you get a group of really smart kids one year and a group of not so smart kids the next year the systems (think NCLB) blames the teachers.
What I am hearing in this conversation (or reading) is that the differences between district elementary schools is not currently being percieved as being very different. That is a change from 20 years ago when there was a clear (at least in public perception) difference and ranking among the schools in the district. |
