Rumor has it that power school will be phased out in the future.
Wonder why? |

Is this from a "Good Source"??? I didn't ask who (I firmly believe in protecting sources!!), just how reliable.
That would be absolutely nuts. This is the one tool parents have to help ensure they really know how their kids are doing. Especially kids "at risk" who may not be bringing home and doing homework.
I thought we were trying to bring grades and testing scores up? How does moving the parents further into the dark help that?

Just received an email from Don Woodworth (I asked him if PowerSchool was being eliminated or replaced).:
Peter,
Not to worry, there are no plans to stop using Powerschool.
don
So there we have it from the authority...

Your source is much better than mine
I agree. I would have been knocking on Don's door if it was no longer available. |

I think Power school would be a great tool, if, teachers were required to update the information on a weekly basis, or more frequently. As it stands now, the data on line may be weeks or months old creating unneeded friction between teenagers and parents. _________________ Le Canard |

HHHmmmm,
So far we haven't had that problem. A few teachers are off by 1 week +/-. But it sounds like we've been lucky!
The area we DO see a problem with is "Homework Now!" in the MS...we have a couple teachers who haven't updated their assignments in 2 to 4 weeks. even constant reminding hasn't helped.

PowerSchool is not always updated in a timely fashion. Depends greatly on the type of teacher your students has. At least that has been my experience for the past 3 years. What irks me most is when powerschool is updated less than week before grades close.
With 4 years at the Middle School updating Homework Now was very inconsistant. Since Mr Hogan introduced "Advisory", Homework Now received even fewer updates. When Mr Hogan was asked last year about the continued use of Homework Now, he responded that it was not going away but "advisory" is when students should be updating their agenda books. "Advisory" is what is most important at the Middle School. |

| Power School and systems like it work best if teachers only keep one set of books. That is to say if they keep their grades only on Power School and track the assignments they give only through Power School. If however they mainly rely on old fashioned paper books or spreadsheets that are not part of the system and have to transpose things into PowerSchool that adds a lot of work to their day. Getting teachers to give up the old ways is a struggle and takes time. |

Alfred,
Let's be fair: getting MOST people to give up their old ways is difficult.
I, being on my 1st diet when I should have been on one 20+ years ago, am a prime example. :>) :>)

I think there is a written school policy htat teachers need to update within 2 weeks.
My kids have had teachers update them twice a semester which is very frustrating as a parent who is trying to keep on child to do pass in work. Even with guidance help, it took weeks to get an update.
Some teachers enter grades and put a 0 in for work not yet completed. |
