Principalship a logical step for Dayotis
By Meghan Carey

ATKINSON — When Kathie Dayotis started teaching at Atkinson Academy in 1973, her plan wasn't necessarily to climb to the top.
But that's what she's done.
Dayotis was just named principal.
"It just evolved that way," she said. "I keep pinching myself; I'm excited. This is my school. I love this school, I love the town, I love the community."
The Timberlane Regional School Board unanimously appointed Dayotis to the head post, beginning July 1, Superintendent Richard La Salle said. She'll take the place of Heidi Webster, who is leaving to work at the International School of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Webster and Dayotis have worked together as principal and assistant principal for the past eight years.
Prior to that, Dayotis, who lives in town, taught fourth- and fifth-grade for 26 years at the school. Her longevity has allowed her to get to know more than one generation of the community, as her former students now have children at Atkinson Academy.
Many of those families were pushing for her to get the job, for which six other candidates were interviewed.
