There are new traffic patterns, one way signs, and entry - exit designations at the high school - middle school which created some confusion this week. A few fender benders are likely as some of the traffic flow directions have changed resulting in head on confrontations. There is a center access point to street that looks like an exit from parking lot only, put has signs for staff entry only. Folks are still going to wrong way in the one way's in the afternoon by the high school gym to avoid the speed bumps. _________________ Le Canard |

| When the High School sent out class schedule and guidance info, it would have been nice if they included a sketch of the changed traffic flow pattern. I guess we will all learn the hard way. |

My map of the new traffic pattern is shown on Len Mullen's site at:
http://danvilledelivery.com/
The green arrows are student dropoff paths. Red is staff parking path, blue is bus entrance. Note that the direction of travel in front of the PAC is REVERSED from previous years!! This is an accident waiting to happen.

I'm sure the new traffic patterns make sound logical sense to someone. The biggest problem is that it appears the changes were not communicated well in advance. As people get used to it things will likely get better. Well one hopes so. |

| I wasn't suggesting that there is any true issue with the traffic pattern. Just that it has been changed and that the flow in front of the PAC is now westbound instead of eastbound. The lack of communication about the change is the problem. people can generally cope with change - but groggy parents (me included) sipping their 1st coffee as they drop off the kids next Tuesday shouldn't be confronted with new traffic flows they hadn't seen before. Its pretty unconscionable that they hadn't at least published a map on their website and through the Eagle Trib. Just give people a fighting chance...its not rocket science. |

it looks like the plan is for the ms busses to be parked and the hs busses to pull around them.
I think there is SR parking from about the line that delineates the HS from MS busses. Do the SR's have to sit there until all the busses are gone or do they attempt to get out at the same time? It seems that teacher parking should be around the back of the building since their day does not end when the bell rings and they will not be competing with students and busses. |

| The middle school and high school have posted announcement regarding change of traffic patterns on their website. As I was looked over the drawing for the 100th time, I was wondering how staff members that park directly in front of the high was suppose to get there. If they entered by the middle school, wouldn't they have to drive through potentially 2 lanes of incoming high/middle student drop off traffic? I've watched cars leave from the parking area in front of the PAC and exit through the HS parking area closest to the street and thought that it's not the safest exit out of the HS since you need to go against traffic to make it across. Maybe the area in front of the HS should have been assigned to student drivers instead and faculty in back of the school. At least they wouldn't be going against traffic. |

Funny how the date of the update to the HS website is 8/25/08, the same date I complained to all 3 Plaistow School Board members about this lack of communication.
Funnier still is actually opening the map using Adobe, clicking on File, then Properties and noting that the map was actually created using D Zanello's computer at about 3:37PM on 8/26/08, NOT 8/25/08.
I guess our SAU has discovered how to go back in time...
On a related note - what are the new dropoff and pickup hours for both the Middle and High Schools. They are not immediately obvious on the websites. Of course, when I look again tomorrow I'll probably find that they were put up yesterday as well!

MS children can supposedly be dropped off early as the Hogan realizes that parents will drop of HS kids and MS kids at the same time. Should be interesting if I drop my HS child off at 7am and my MS child wanders over to the MS 40 minutes before school starts is MS really going to be happy. Are they going to punish then and make they sit quietly on the gym floor. I think the first MS bus does not reach the school prior to 7:20.
The first week of school is going to be more of a nightmare than usual. |

I was DEAD WRONG on this. Mr. Dean Zanello is the district IT guru who has spet most of the summer redoing the district-wide network. I learned this evening that the misdating was merely an insignificant error made by a guy working his b*&t off trying to get the new network going in time for school opening Tuesday. I humbly apologize for jumping to conclusions. He does not deserve the bad PR. And I've already begged his forgiveness privately as well.

Next week we will experience whether or not the new traffic pattern and delayed Middle School start time will improve traffic conditions on Greenough Road. I hope so. It would nice to see that the district found a solution without emptying our wallets. I like the new traffic pattern. I still wonder why it is necessary to have a separate entrance for staff parking especially where it is located. Happy back to school to all |

Well, after avoiding school dropoff yesterday I gave it a shot this morning. all-in-all not bad. Only downside I saw was that the only way to dropoff at the PAC is to pull into a parking spot across the driveway. There were cones setup in front of the PAC to preclude stopping. I don't know about anyone else, but my HS daughter goes directly to the PAC every morning.
Kuddos to Jack Paone from the School Board for being there directing traffic. I don't know if any other SB member was there, I don't recognize them all. Also seen helping were Coker and Woodworth.

| This year, my senior has a parking spot at the HS so it will be occasional that I bring my high schoolers in. Thanks Peter for the update. Later this week I will be dropping off in the AM so it's nice to know that the new traffic pattern is starting to smooth out. Mr Woodworth is a familiar face in the am for directing traffic and kudos to Mr Paone for helping out. Traffic usually gets back up when students arrive and having lengthy conversations and/or very slowly emptying their truck while blocking incoming vehicles. I wish more people who need the extra time would just pull up to the far end of the HS or park by the PAC instead of slowing down incoming traffic. |

My husband had to drive my MS student in this morning. The bus broke down, the AlertNow didn't call to tell us, another parent called to tell us...but that's a whole other topic.
My husband said that there are no signs directing drivers where to go. He said that someone (he doesn't know who) told him he wasn't going the right way. He told them that if they had put up signs, he might have known where to go.
At least this morning my student arrived to school on-time. Now, hopefully he'll get home more than 10 minutes before his elementary school sibling does. |
