I just read this. It is an excellent read. Assuming it is accurate, I am outraged. La Salle throws the students and parents under the bus -- excellent pool of teachers and sound curriculum (which he wants to change). $57,000,000 *is* significant parental support and I'm sure there is much more parental support in the form of fundraisers and 'donations' to the school.
His comments on the construction of the buildings and anticipation of zero cost for maintenance post construction are at best naive (after reading Final Figure I can't dismiss dishonest). The new construction has been fraught with problems and the repairs have been expensive. I believe he sited those construction problems in another excuse for the poor performance of his staff.
His position on the upcoming contract negotiation is troubling. Announcing publicly that the SAU does not anticipate a strike and has no plans to deal with one is irresponsible. He just cost us a lot of money and, quite possibly, made one inevitable.
His comparison of Timberlane to neighboring schools does not ring true to me. I doubt HS kids are doing genetic splicing or cloning. Who thinks an IT staff that can't run a powerpoint slide show on a laptop will be able to manage a $10,000,000 tv studio?
Then Peg Ralph comes in and announces that an army of people is doing analysis on our future direction and the root causes of the academic failure of the district. I support this 100%, and NO change should be undertaken until data collection and analysis activities are complete.
Clearly, La Salle et al plan to forge ahead regardless of the results of the analysis. |
